New details have surfaced regarding the brutal killings of soldiers by members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

This platform previously detailed the chaos unleashed by IPOB militants, including the torching of vehicles and tricycles (commonly known as Keke Napep) during Thursday’s attack.

According to a signal obtained by Daily Trust on Friday, the military high command confirmed the deaths of at least five troops stationed at the Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Area, adjacent to Aba metropolis in Abia State.

Among the slain soldiers were two Sergeants, two Corporals, and one Lance Corporal, while six civilians lost their lives in the crossfire, as per military sources.

The fallen soldiers are identified as follows:

  • Sergeant Charles Ugochukwu (94NA/38/1467)
  • Sergeant Bala Abraham (03NA/53/1028)
  • Corporal Gideon Egwe (10NA/65/7085)
  • Corporal Ikpeama Ikechukwu (13NA/70/5483)
  • Corporal Augustine Emmanuel (13NA/70/6663)

The signal reported: “On 30 May 24, at about 0830 hrs, troops of 144 Battalion deployed at Obikabia Junction Federal School Road, Ogbor Hill in Obingwa LGA were attacked by unknown gunmen suspected to be IPOB/ESN members.”

It further described the assailants arriving in three black Toyota Land Cruiser Jeeps, numbering around 30, and opening fire on the troops, resulting in the deaths of five soldiers.

Additionally, the attackers made away with five AK47 rifles, destroyed two military patrol hilux vehicles, and inflicted injuries on two civilians.

The signal indicated a tense atmosphere in Aba, with ongoing monitoring for further developments.
