Residents Run For Their Lives As Terrorists Threaten To Slaughter Them After Gunning Down Over 35
Scores of residents in Kukawa Local Government Area have been forced to flee their homes after ISWAP terrorists issued a deadly ultimatum, threatening death for those who remained.
Last Sunday night, more than 35 fishermen were reportedly killed in an attack by ISWAP fighters, with over 25 people severely wounded and approximately 30 others missing.
A survivor recounted the horrifying ordeal: “They claimed they wanted to preach to us, and we were deceived. Instead, they gathered us, and their commander ordered our execution. They accused us of betrayal, saying some among us were spying for enemies.”
“They opened fire on us. At least 35 people were killed, and over 30 managed to escape. Ten more people have returned this morning, so more than 30 people are still missing. We don’t know if they are alive or dead,” the survivor added.
The terrorists reportedly issued an ultimatum, compelling residents to vacate the area by Saturday. Modu Kukawa Ba’nna revealed that fleeing residents are now split into two groups, some seeking refuge in Tunbun Rogo, Kukawa Local Government, where the deadly attack occurred.
While some are complying with the ultimatum, others are hesitant due to fears of starvation in IDP camps. The situation remains tense as panic grips the community.
Calls have been made for government and security intervention to safeguard the community and prevent further atrocities.
Reports suggest that Kukawa town has been under ISWAP control for over a year, with residents functioning as human shields. Allegations of betrayal and suspicions of locals spying on the terrorists have exacerbated tensions.
The victims of the attack were predominantly fishermen from nearby towns.
Meanwhile, authorities are yet to respond to the incident, leaving the fate of the community uncertain.
