Residents Perish While Running To Escape From Bandits

Four residents of Niger State drowned while escaping a bandit attack in the Gurmana area of Shiroro Local Government.

In this community, people frequently use canoes to flee to an island and hide from bandits who often target the region.

The unfortunate incident happened on Thursday when the residents, who had sought refuge on the island on Wednesday, tried to return home, resulting in their boat capsizing.

The bandit assault on Wednesday night led to the deaths of three individuals, the theft of cattle, and the kidnapping of several residents in Bassa, near Gurmana.

Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, has not responded to an SMS inquiry as at the time of this report.
