Just-in: Senator Ayogu Eze dies in Abuja

The Senator who represented Enugu North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Ayogu Eze has died.

It was learnt that Eze a former Senate spokesman, died in an Abuja Hospital after a protracted illness.

According to the source, the late Senator has been down, a situation that made him unable to attend his child’s wedding ceremony held earlier in the year in Lagos State.

Born on November 23, 1958, Eze was elected Senator for the Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu State, Nigeria, taking office on June 5, 2007.

Eze served in the National Assembly from 2007 to 2015. During his tenure, he was a member of the Constitution Drafting and Amendment Committee, which made significant changes to Nigeria’s 1999 constitution.

Following his reelection to the Senate in 2011, Eze was appointed chairman of the Committee on Works. He also served as a member of committees on Police Affairs, National Planning, Marine Transport, and Federal Character & Inter-Government Affairs.

He was a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, before he defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, where he ran for Enugu State governorship election.
