A fresh twist has emerged concerning the controversial primary election that was held in Ondo State by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the governorship election in the state.

Wale Akinterinwa, an aspirant for the Ondo governorship under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has leveled serious accusations against Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State, who serves as the Chairman of the party’s primary election committee. Akinterinwa alleges that Ododo engaged in result manipulation during the primary process, asserting that no legitimate election took place across the state’s 203 Wards.

The controversy arose after Ododo declared Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the state governor, as the APC’s gubernatorial candidate, citing his victory in the primary election.

Akinterinwa strongly condemned the conduct of the primary election, labeling it as a “show of shame.” His campaign organization’s spokesperson, Mr. Segun Ajiboye, reiterated their position in a statement, highlighting the absence of any credible electoral process.

Ajiboye’s statement read: “Without any fear of contradiction, we state here that no election was held in any part of Ondo on Saturday to elect the candidate of the APC. It is on record with incontrovertible evidence that nothing in the semblance of a primary election was held in all the 203 wards in Ondo.”

He further asserted: “At best, what can be said to have happened was that the committee chairman, Gov. Ododo, arrived in the state at about 8 am on Saturday to write the result of an election that was never conducted. Saturday’s election presented our dear party with a rare opportunity to endear itself to the people of the state.”

Akinterinwa’s allegations have stirred significant controversy within the APC ranks in Ondo State, raising concerns about the integrity of the electoral process and the party’s commitment to democratic principles.
