Police officers and soldiers have cordoned off the street leading to the Nasarawa palace, where the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero, currently resides.

Reports from TheCable indicate that all adjacent streets have been barricaded, and stringent security measures are in place within the palace grounds.

On Monday, the Kano State High Court issued an order restraining the recently ousted Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, and four others from assuming the role of monarchs in the state. This order was granted following an ex parte motion filed by the state government on May 27, 2024.

Justice Aisha Adamu Aliyu, presiding over the case, directed the dethroned Emirs to cease acting in their official capacities and vacate their palaces immediately. Furthermore, the court instructed the Commissioner of Police in Kano to assume control of the palace currently occupied by Ado Bayero and promptly remove the former Emir.

The legislative amendment by the Kano state House of Assembly to a 2019 law, previously utilized by then-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to depose Muhammadu Sanusi as Emir, has been a focal point. The 2019 legislation delineated the emirate into Bichi, Rano, Karaye, Kano, and Gaya. However, this recent amendment resulted in the dismissal of all Emirs. While the deposed Emirs complied with the directive to vacate their palaces, Bayero has not yet done so.

Tensions have escalated in Kano since the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi as Emir last Friday. Supporters of Bayero demonstrated across Kano on Sunday heightening tensions in the state.
