Governor Obaseki Backed Labour Party - Shaibu Reveals

Former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt Hon Philip Shaibu has revealed how Governor Godwin Obaseki backed two rival political parties during the last election.

Shaibu made the disclosure when he spoke to journalists during the Fathers’ Day celebration at St Paul Catholic Church in Benin City. He made that known while defending his decision to back the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Monday Okpebholo whom he described as a ”homeboy” with the qualities to govern Edo State very well.

Speaking on whether he would not be accused of anti-party activity since he is still a member of the PDP, Shiabu said “No, it is not anti-party because I know that in the last election, the governor was one leg in the Labour Party and one leg PDP so it can’t be anti-party now.”

Shaibu stated that he would not support the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo because he (Ighodalo) is a product of godfatherism which he and even Governor Obaseki had fought against in the past. He then said he would not turn around now to support the godfatherism that Obaseki is foisting.
