Edo Assembly Intensifies Move To Impeach Shaibu, Reveals New Strategy

The Edo State House Assembly has intensified move to impeach the Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu.

The Assembly disclosed a new strategy it would use. It said that it has decided to publish the impeachment notice concerning Shaibu, in national dailies.

Speaker Blessing Agbebaku highlighted the decision after Shaibu allegedly refused to acknowledge the notice served on him last week.

“We have observed that the Deputy Governor has declined to recognize the impeachment notice served by the House,” said Speaker Agbebaku, emphasizing the need for alternative measures.

The impeachment proceedings against Shaibu began last Wednesday, with accusations including perjury and leaking government secrets. This development exacerbates the existing tension between Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki, which originated from Shaibu’s declaration of interest in the governorship race last year.

The House convened on Monday to address the issue further. Speaker Agbebaku instructed the Clerk of the House, Yahaya Omogbai, to publish the notice in national dailies, including the Nigerian Observer newspaper.

“It is evident that the deputy governor has rejected the impeachment notice,” asserted Speaker Agbebaku, underlining the necessity for broader dissemination of the notice.
