Don Jazzy Jokes About Being a Newcomer in Music Industry

Famous music executive, Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has claimed that he is still in the early stages of his career, describing himself as an “upcoming singer.” The 41-year-old music executive and founder of Mavin Records made this statement in response to a fan’s suggestion for a concert featuring legendary Nigerian artists. The conversation began on X (formerly Twitter) when a user identified as @beingzora proposed an OG Naija music festival. The fan suggested that veteran entertainers such as Don Jazzy, P-Square, Wande Coal, and others come together for a live performance.

“Ughhh someone needs to plan an OG Naija music festival with P-Square, Dbanj, Wande Coal, Duncan Mighty, Don Jazzy (Old Mavins), Ice Prince!!! That would go so crazyyyy!,” the post read.

In response, Don Jazzy humorously downplayed his status. He wrote;

“I be upcoming o. Stay there.”

The music executive’s response has sparked a mix of reactions from fans and followers. Don Jazzy’s career began to soar in 2004 when he co-founded Mo’ Hits Records with D’banj. His prominence grew further when he worked as an in-house producer for Kanye West’s GOOD Music from 2011 to 2015. After the dissolution of Mo’ Hits, he established Mavin Records in 2012, which has since become a powerhouse in the Nigerian music scene. In 2024, Don Jazzy sold Mavin Records to Universal Music Group but continued to serve as the CEO.
