BREAKING: New Speaker Loyal To Gov Fubara Emerges In Rivers (VIDEO)

In a move showcasing loyalty to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, lawmakers have elected Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo as the new Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Hon. Oko Jumbo took the oath of office on Wednesday and assumed the role of the assembly’s factional Speaker to rival Hon. Martins Amaewhule who is the Speaker of the 27 Rivers Assembly lawmakers loyal to FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Jumbo affirmed his commitment to collaborating with Governor Fubara, stating, “I have directed the Clerk of the Assembly to communicate the emergence of a new leadership of the assembly to the executive.” He also vowed to work for Rivers people in collaboration with the Executive arm.

Governor Fubara has contested the legitimacy of the state House of Assembly under Amaewhule’s leadership. This stance follows the decision of lawmakers allied with Wike, to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Regarding the Amaewhule-led Assembly, Fubara declared, “Let me say it here, those group of men who claim that they are assembly members, they are not existing. I want it to be on record.”

Fubara further elaborated, “Their existence and whatever they have been doing is because I allowed them to do so. If I don’t recognize them, they are nowhere, that is the truth.”
