BREAKING: Court Grants Emefiele N300M Bail, Fixes Date For His Trial

Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, was granted bail in the sum of N300 million following his arraignment on a four-count charge related to the printing of new naira notes without due process.

Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during the reading of the charge.

Appearing before Justice Maryanne Anenih of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama, Emefiele stood as the sole defendant in the case.

The bail conditions stipulated that Emefiele must produce two sureties, each possessing titled property within the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Additionally, he was ordered to deposit his travel documents with the court and seek permission before traveling outside the country.

These conditions mirrored those of a previous bail granted to Emefiele by another FCT High Court judge, Justice Hamza Muazu, in connection with another criminal case.

Justice Anenih specified that Emefiele could fulfill the bail conditions by providing certified true copies (CTCs) of the documents submitted for his previous bail.

The trial is scheduled to commence on May 28.
