APC Lists Amaechi's Defeats, Reveals That He Has Lost APC Structures In Rivers To Wike

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has announced that former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has lost over 70% of his political followers in the state.

Eric Nwibani, Secretary of the State APC Caretaker Committee, made this statement during a news briefing in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Nwibani pointed out that, apart from losing his support base, Amaechi, who is also a former Governor of the State, has experienced three consecutive electoral defeats from 2015 to 2023, despite his influential roles as a “super minister” and a key member of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s inner circle, serving twice as the Director General of Buhari’s Presidential Campaigns.

Nwibani was responding to Amaechi’s recent comments, in which he claimed that those who abandoned him to align with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, did so because they couldn’t withstand hunger.

Nwibani suggested that Amaechi should reflect on why many of his followers have deserted him, rather than lashing out with accusations. He stated, “Amaechi has lost over 70 percent of his followership. I’m done working with Amaechi. Let me tell you the type of leader Amaechi is.”

Recalling a tragic incident, Nwibani said, “In 2019, during President Buhari’s campaign rally at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, 16 Rivers people died in a stampede. Amaechi visited three affected families in Obio/Akpo and promised support, but he never followed through. That is the kind of leader Amaechi is.”

Nwibani continued, “Amaechi harbors long-standing bitterness. He mentioned planning to win the next election. How? You were a super minister and failed to win the last election; now out of government, how do you plan to succeed?”

Nwibani refuted Amaechi’s claim that those working with Wike are hungry, saying, “I don’t know where Amaechi worked before politics, but we know he made his money from government. People like Chief Victor Giadom, Ojukaye Flag Amachree, and Sampson Ngerigbari are not hungry. Wike is a PDP member but a son of Rivers, performing well as the FCT minister under President Tinubu. We should support him. Amaechi’s ineffective leadership led to three consecutive election losses. You can’t expect people to continue following you under such circumstances.”

He added, “Amaechi left PDP for APC in 2014 without backlash. Why carry bitterness over his loss to President Tinubu in 2023?”
