Am also from Niger — Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday said by virtue of the conferment of the chieftaincy title: Jagaban of Borgu on him, he is also from Niger State.

The indigeneship of the President is surrounded by controversy with some of his adversaries controverting his claim to Lagos, and saying he hails from Osun State.

In what may be seen as another addition to the public discourse on Tinubu’s state of origin happened on Thursday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the 84km, N169.7bn Bida-Minna Road construction in Kakakpagi, Katch Local Government Area of Niger State.

Speaking, the President represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said among others that his Jagaban of Borgu title made him “a son of the soil.”

In Idris’ words, “As a traditional title holder of Jagaba Borgu since about 20 years ago, I am also a son of Niger and I will be part of anything that will bring development to the people of the state.”

The Minister also quoted Tinubu as saying, “For governments at all levels to grow, there must be cordial relationships. The Federal Government will support Niger to ensure that the desired prosperity is derived. Nigeria will be self-sufficient in food production during my administration.

“Road construction will save lives and create avenues for greater economic development.”
