Alleged Fraud: Fresh Details Of How Emefiele Outsmarted Buhari Emerge

Fresh details have emerged on how the embattled ex-Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele deceived former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ahmed Umar, a former Director of Currency Operations at the CBN) revealed that Emefiele printed his own version of the naira design.

Umar made this revelation while testifying at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama.

He explained that the features in the design approved by former President Buhari differed from those in the version Emefiele had printed.

Umar stated, “The design approved by the President had a QR code, which is absent in the currency in circulation. The positioning of the portrait was on the right side, but the version printed by the CBN placed it on the left. Additionally, the number scheme approved by the President is different from what the CBN produced.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Emefiele on May 15 on a four-count charge before Justice Maryanne Anenih of the FCT High Court.

Emefiele denied the charges and was granted bail in the sum of N300 million.
