2027: Atiku To Team Up With Powerful APC, Other Politicians To Form Mega Party

Opposition figures are strategizing to establish a new political party aimed at challenging the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming general election.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has initiated efforts to launch this proposed mega party in collaboration with certain members of the National Assembly from both the APC and other parties, sources revealed.

Concerns about the internal divisions within the leading opposition party have prompted Atiku’s camp to take action, fearing that prolonged disunity could jeopardize their chances of securing power from the ruling party in 2027.

According to a source cited by The Nation, Atiku has been coordinating with former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari and enlisting the support of Abdul Ningi, the Chairman of the Northern Senators’ Forum, to advance their agenda.

The unfolding events have drawn parallels to the political landscape of 2013, where several governors and federal legislators defected from the PDP and allied with other parties to establish the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku, who played a pivotal role in the formation of the APC, faced defeat in the party’s presidential primary in 2014, ultimately returning to the PDP to contest against President Buhari in 2019. Last year, he engaged in a presidential election showdown with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Reflecting on their strategy, a source emphasized their intention to replicate the 2013 scenario, aiming to establish a formidable coalition capable of wresting power from Tinubu’s administration.

He elaborated, “Ningi’s statement on the BBC Hausa Service was one of the moves of the promoters of the mega party. They want to create problems in the National Assembly and set the lawmakers against each other and the Presidency.”

Acknowledging these developments, a southern senator underscored their vigilance and determination to counter attempts aimed at destabilizing the government and restoring power to the North.

Ningi, representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, reaffirmed their stance, stating, “Indeed, we don’t attack the government as the opposition is supposed to do. But this is a result of the situation and the government we have.”
